# Best SEO Services for Small Businesses in Canada

## Key facts

| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| Firms checked | Five Canadian SEO firms plus UXPro, in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta, read 10 Oct 2026 and again 26 Oct 2026 |
| Small-business SEO retainers | Roughly CAD $1,000–$3,500 a month on the public pages we read (not audited) |
| Firms publishing a price | 3 of 6: My Little Big Web, Visibility Drip and UXPro (Kinex's minimum is on Clutch) |
| Our price | SEO and content from CAD $650 a month plus HST, month-to-month |
| What we did not verify | Client results, review authenticity, and what a published price buys in practice |

**There is no single best SEO firm for a small Canadian business, only a best fit for your city, budget and industry. From the public pricing pages we read (not audited), ongoing small-business SEO retainers run roughly CAD $1,000 to $3,500 a month. This guide applies one six-point scorecard to five independent firms in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta, and to our own studio, and says plainly what we could and could not verify.**

We sell SEO ourselves, from CAD $650 a month, so our entry goes through the same checks rather than being left out. UXPro is a design studio in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, for small businesses, practices and startups: websites, apps, brand, pitch decks, SEO and marketing.

_First published on 28 August 2025 on our previous site. Rewritten in full on 10 October 2026, and every entry re-checked again on 26 October 2026._

## How we checked

On 10 October 2026, and again on 26 October 2026, we read each firm's own site and, where its site said little, its Clutch profile. For each we recorded where it is based, when it says it started, what "SEO" means in its offer, and whether it publishes a price. We did not commission test work, interview clients or take payment for inclusion. Search Engine People, Kinex Media, Snaptech Marketing, Visibility Drip and My Little Big Web all compete with our own SEO work.

What we could not verify: client results, review authenticity and whether a published price is what you would actually pay.

## The scorecard (use it on anyone)

| # | Criterion | What good looks like | How to check it yourself |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Local track record | A claimed Google Business Profile with recent reviews in a Canadian city they name | Search the firm's name and city on Google Maps |
| 2 | Technical clarity | Can explain one technical fix (crawling, page speed, structured data) in plain words | Ask for it on the first call |
| 3 | Content approach | Dated, author-attributed pages on its own site | Look at its own blog for real bylines and dates |
| 4 | Independent listing | A Clutch, BBB or similar profile with reviews you can read off-site | Search "[firm] Clutch" |
| 5 | Written scope and price | A published price or a written, itemised scope before you sign | Ask for a sample statement of work |
| 6 | Reporting you can verify | Results shown in your own Search Console and analytics, not only a branded dashboard | Ask to see a redacted client report |

## The firms we checked

Listed alphabetically. This is not a ranking.

| Firm | Based | Operating since (as stated) | Published price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kinex Media | Mississauga, ON | 2008 (Clutch profile) | $5,000+ minimum project, $100–$149/hr (Clutch) |
| My Little Big Web | Montreal, QC | 2013 (its site) | SEO from $1,000–$2,000 a month for an SME, up to $5,000+; 10–20 hours a month at $1,500–$3,500 (its site) |
| Search Engine People | Toronto area, ON | "The late 90's" (its about page) | Not published on the pages we read |
| Snaptech Marketing | Burnaby (Vancouver), BC | 2002 (its site) | Not published on the pages we read |
| Visibility Drip | Calgary, AB | 2019, incorporated 2021 (its site) | SEO from $3,000–$7,000 a month (its site) |
| UXPro (this studio) | Kitchener, ON | Not stated here | SEO and content from $650 a month, plus HST |

**Kinex Media** is a Mississauga firm whose Clutch profile says it was founded in 2008, has 50 to 249 people and takes projects from $5,000; its own site says "since 2008" and publishes website ranges from $7,000 for a basic business site. It bundles SEO with web design and development, which suits a business that wants one contract; ask how the two are scoped and billed.

**My Little Big Web** works bilingually out of Montreal and has operated since 2013. It publishes its range: SEO for a small or medium business starts between $1,000 and $2,000 a month and can reach $5,000 or more, and it prices 10 to 20 hours of monthly work at $1,500 to $3,500. Its site also says 95% of its SEO team is in Quebec and that it works under Law 25 with data hosted in Canada. If you need French-language pages or a bilingual Google Business Profile, that is a capability most firms on this list do not lead with.

**Search Engine People** dates its history to "the late 90's" on its own about page and says it was listed among Profit Magazine's fastest-growing startups five years running, which makes it one of the longer-running SEO firms in Canada. A firm of that age and size will likely assign a team; ask who your day-to-day contact is.

**Snaptech Marketing** says it was founded in 2002, has "20+ years in business" and is based in Burnaby, near Vancouver, with "no long term contracts" and "transparent pricing" stated on its home page, though no figure is published there. Its own marketing leans toward established businesses; confirm the minimum engagement before the first call.

**Visibility Drip** is a Calgary firm that says it has been an SEO agency since 2019 and incorporated in 2021. It publishes its retainers: $3,000 to $7,000 a month for its performance tier and $7,000 to $15,000 for its competitive tier. That is well above the small-business range most owners expect, and it is published, which is more than most firms do.

**UXPro** is our own studio, a design studio for small businesses, practices and startups: websites, product and app UX, brand identity, pitch decks, and SEO and AI-search support. Our SEO is sold through the Growth care plan, from $650 CAD a month plus HST (one SEO article a month and two hours of edits), or Authority at $1,200 (two articles and four hours), both month-to-month. The trade-off is real: it is SEO bundled with looking after the site, not a stand-alone link-building retainer, and it may not suit a business that only wants search work done on a site someone else runs.

## SEO and AI search: what changed, with sources

A small business now has more than one search surface: Google's results, Google's AI Overviews, and assistants like ChatGPT and Perplexity that cite sources. Four points worth asking any firm about, each with the evidence behind it:

- **Google says there is no special AI optimisation.** Its Search Central page on AI features says there are "no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, nor other special optimizations necessary", and no special schema or AI text file is needed. Be wary of a firm selling either as a ranking fix.
- **Ranking and being cited are different outcomes.** In Ahrefs' study of 15,000 prompts, about 12% of the URLs ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot cited ranked in Google's top 10 for the same prompt (Perplexity 28.6%). Ask whether a firm tracks both.
- **Fresher pages get cited more.** Across 17 million citations, Ahrefs found AI-cited URLs were on average 25.7% fresher than organic results. A true "last updated" date reflecting real changes is worth having.
- **Your brand name is answered by other sites.** In Profound's analysis of more than 4 billion citations, Reddit, YouTube and Wikipedia were the most-cited domains. A firm that only touches your own website is doing half the job.

## Questions to ask before you sign

- "What exactly do I get each month, in writing?"
- "Can I see a real, redacted client report in Search Console terms?"
- "Who does the work day to day?"
- "What happens if I cancel after three months, and what do I keep?"
- "What would make you tell me SEO isn't the right spend for my business right now?"

## Doing it yourself instead

If you can write consistently and are comfortable in Google Search Console, much of small-business local SEO is doable without a firm: claim and complete your Google Business Profile, keep your name, address and phone identical everywhere, and publish a handful of pages that answer the exact questions your customers ask. Hire when your time is worth more than the fee, or when the site needs technical work you cannot do yourself.

## FAQ

### Who offers the best SEO services for small businesses in Canada?
No single firm: the best fit depends on your city, budget and industry. Run the six-point scorecard above on every firm on your shortlist, including us, and ask each for a written scope before comparing prices.

### How much should a small business budget for SEO in Canada?
From the public prices we read on 26 October 2026, ongoing small-business retainers run roughly $1,000 to $3,500 a month (My Little Big Web from $1,000 to $2,000 for an SME, with 10 to 20 hours of monthly work priced at $1,500 to $3,500; Visibility Drip from $3,000). Ours is from $650 CAD a month plus HST, bundled with care of the site. Compare written scopes, not headline prices.

### How do I check an SEO firm is legitimate before signing?
Look it up outside its own website: a Google Business Profile with real reviews, a Clutch or BBB profile, and a domain as old as the firm says it is. Ask for one reference you can call. A firm that guarantees rankings is not being straight with you.

### Do I need separate "AI search" optimisation on top of SEO?
Not according to Google, which says there are no extra requirements or special optimisations for its AI Overviews and AI Mode. What helps is the same work done well: pages that answer real questions, kept current, and a consistent presence on the sites assistants cite.
