# How Much Does a UX Agency Cost in Canada?

## Key facts

| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| Directory-reported range | UX/UI design projects: $10,000 to $49,999 per project, in US dollars (Clutch, updated 21 September 2026) |
| Directory-reported hourly rate, Canada | $50 to $99 an hour on average, in US dollars (Clutch) |
| UXPro UX audit | $850 CAD per product, plus HST (as of 17 October 2026) |
| UXPro design sprint | $4,500 CAD per two-week sprint, plus HST (as of 17 October 2026) |
| What moves the price | Number of screens and states, whether a design system exists, research depth, and sprint or fixed scope |

**A UX agency in Canada costs anything from under a thousand dollars for an audit to tens of thousands for a full product design. Clutch reports UX/UI projects at $10,000 to $49,999 (US dollars) and Canadian rates averaging $50 to $99 an hour. Our published prices: a UX audit at $850 CAD per product and a design sprint at $4,500 CAD per two-week sprint, plus HST.** UXPro is a design studio in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, for small businesses, practices and startups: websites, apps, brand, pitch decks, SEO and marketing.

## What are you actually paying a UX agency for?

> **UX agency fee:** the price of the decisions a team makes about how people complete a task in your product (research, flows, screens, states and a handoff your developers can build from), not the price of the screens as pictures.

That distinction explains most of the range. Two agencies can both promise "the onboarding flow" and quote very different numbers, because one plans to read your support tickets, test a prototype with five people and deliver every empty, loading and error state, and the other plans to draw the happy path. The second quote is cheaper. It is also a different job.

## What do Canadian UX agencies charge?

There is no public price survey of Canadian UX studios. The closest public figures come from directories, which compile them from the projects their listed agencies are reviewed on. Clutch's [design agency pricing guide](https://www.clutch.co/agencies/design/pricing), updated 21 September 2026, reports:

- UX/UI design projects at $10,000 to $49,999 per project
- most agencies charging $25 to $49 an hour across all regions, with rates varying by region
- an average hourly cost of $50 to $99 for agencies in Canada
- an average design agency project of $56,303.38, across all design work, not UX alone

Clutch notes that its ranges are in US dollars and that it compiles them "from first-party reviews submitted by verified Design clients". A directory whose business is listing agencies is not a neutral survey, and its sample mixes project sizes and countries. Use these figures to sanity-check a quote that seems far outside the range, not to set your budget.

## What does UXPro charge for UX and product design?

We publish prices for the shapes of work that repeat, and quote the rest in writing after a call. As of 17 October 2026, all in Canadian dollars plus HST:

| Work | Price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| UX audit | $850 CAD per product, plus HST | The core journeys walked end to end, a heuristic review, an accessibility pass against WCAG 2.2 AA and a ranked findings report with a walkthrough call |
| Design sprint | $4,500 CAD per two-week sprint, plus HST | Work agreed at the start of the sprint: flows and wireframes, then high-fidelity screens, components with every state, and a developer handoff |
| App MVP design | From $7,500 CAD per project, plus HST | Onboarding and core flows, phone screens with every state, a component set and a developer handoff |
| Marketing website | From $1,500, $3,500 or $7,500 CAD per project, plus HST | Priced as a website build, because it is a different job |

Payment for project work is in two instalments: 50% to start, 50% at launch. Front-end implementation of an application, user-testing recruitment fees and ongoing product management are not included; the [UX and UI design page](/services/ux-ui-design) lists every inclusion and exclusion, and the [pricing page](/pricing) shows all of our published prices side by side.

## What makes a UX quote go up or down?

Four things move the number more than anything else. They are the same four our own quotes turn on.

1. **Screens and states.** A flow with eight screens, each needing empty, loading, error and success states, is far more drawing than the happy path alone. Ask how many states the quote assumes.
2. **Whether a design system exists.** If your product already has components, tokens and type decided, new screens reuse them. If not, someone has to build the system first, and that work should be named.
3. **Research depth.** Reading your analytics and support tickets is cheaper than recruiting and interviewing users. Both are legitimate; the quote should say which, and whether participant incentives are extra.
4. **Engagement model.** A fixed-scope project prices a deliverable list. A sprint arrangement prices capacity on your cycle. Neither is better; they suit different teams.

## How do you compare two UX quotes fairly?

Put them in the same table before you look at the totals.

| Line | Quote A | Quote B |
|---|---|---|
| Research: what kind, with whom, what you receive | | |
| Flows and screens: how many, which states | | |
| Design system or component library: built, extended or none | | |
| Accessibility: which WCAG level, how it is checked | | |
| Handoff: tokens, redlines, walkthrough | | |
| Revision rounds and review points | | |
| Price basis: fixed, sprint or hourly with an estimate | | |
| HST: included or extra | | |
| Payment schedule | | |

A blank cell is the most useful thing in that table: it is the question to ask before you sign.

## What should a UX quote never leave out?

**The tax line.** HST is 13% in Ontario, according to the [Canada Revenue Agency](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/gst-hst-businesses/charge-collect-which-rate.html). On a $4,500 sprint that is $585, so a quote that does not say "plus HST" or "including HST" leaves the real total unclear. How to check a firm's HST registration is in our [questions to ask before hiring an agency](/blog/questions-to-ask-before-hiring-a-web-design-agency).

**UX-specific extras.** Prototyping tool seats, participant incentives for user testing and stock licences are real costs that rarely appear in a website quote. A fair UX quote names them, even when they are yours to pay. Our [red flags in agency proposals](/blog/red-flags-in-agency-proposals) covers mandatory fees hidden in the terms.

## Is an audit the cheaper place to start?

Often, yes. An audit reviews what already exists and ranks the problems, so you spend design budget only on the flows that are losing people. Our [guide to UX audits](/blog/what-is-a-ux-audit) explains what the deliverable should contain. For a marketing website rather than a product, the free Redline does a smaller version of the same job: we redline one page of your site at phone width, up to ten notes, sent as a PDF.

## FAQ

### What does a UX agency charge per hour in Canada?

Clutch's design pricing guide, updated 21 September 2026, lists an average of $50 to $99 an hour for Canada, in US dollars, compiled from reviews on its own platform. Treat it as a rough frame: it is a directory's sample, not a survey of Canadian studios.

### Is a UX audit cheaper than a redesign?

Usually, because an audit reviews what exists and ranks the problems rather than designing new screens. Ours is $850 CAD per product, plus HST. A redesign is priced on the screens, states and research it needs.

### Why do UX quotes for the same project differ so much?

Because they rarely describe the same project. One may include research and a component library; another may cover a handful of screens. Line the quotes up by deliverable, research and handoff before comparing totals.

### Do UX agencies charge HST in Ontario?

A registered business charges HST, which is 13% in Ontario according to the Canada Revenue Agency. Ask whether a quote includes it; ours are always stated plus HST.
