# UX and Product Design Studios in Waterloo Region, Compared (2026)

## Key facts

| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| Studios in the table | 3 Waterloo Region studios plus UXPro, each verified on its own site on 15 October 2026 |
| Method | Public facts only; directory leads we could not confirm on a firm's own site were dropped; nobody paid |
| Publish a UX or product price | None of the four, ourselves included; UXPro publishes website prices only |
| Show process in a case study | 2 of 4: Loft17 Creative and UXPro |
| Best first filter | A case study that explains the problem, the research and the decisions, not only finished screens |

**There is no neutral ranking of UX and product design agencies in Kitchener-Waterloo, so the useful answer is who actually offers the work and how to judge them. On 15 October 2026, four Waterloo Region studios confirmed UX or product design on their own sites: Loft17 Creative, Token Creative Services, Metatroncube Software Solution and UXPro (this studio). Pick on case studies that show real process, then compare written scopes.**

## How did we build this list?

Method: public facts fetched on 15 October 2026, nobody paid for inclusion. We started from directory listings for UX and UI design in Kitchener and Waterloo, plus web searches for product and app design studios in the region. Then we opened each firm's own website and kept it only if that site confirmed two things on the day: a location in Waterloo Region (Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge or the surrounding townships) and UX, UI or product design as a service.

Directories were leads, not evidence. Clutch's [Canada UI/UX directory](https://clutch.co/ca/agencies/ui-ux) listed 1,042 companies on the day we checked and says it may earn a fee for some placements; none of the top listings on its first page were in Waterloo Region. Several firms that directories place in the region failed our test:

- **CreativeFlo** appears in a directory as a Kitchener UX studio, but we could not find a website of its own.
- **Hexagon Studio**'s site names "Branding, Web, UI/UX & Interior" but gives no city or address.
- **Digital Arkitechs** lists "UX/UI Design and Consulting" on its site, which names no city.
- **Keon Designs**' site would not open a secure connection when we tried.

Any of them may be a good studio. We left them out because we could not confirm the basics from the firm itself.

## Which studios offer UX and product design in Waterloo Region?

| Studio | Location, as its own site states | Stated UX and product services | Published UX price | Case studies with process |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Loft17 Creative | Kitchener-Waterloo, "Est. 2018" | Custom app design: mobile and web apps and "product UX", from wireframes and prototypes to build; also brand, websites, print and 3D prototyping | No | Yes: its Chicopee study sets out the brief, the approach and the build (a brand and website project) |
| Metatroncube Software Solution | Waterloo, Ontario (no street address) | UI/UX: research and strategy, user flows, interactive prototypes and user testing; also website and mobile app development, SEO and digital marketing | No (its FAQ quotes general industry ranges, not its own rates) | No: the portfolio shows project names, screenshots and links |
| Token Creative Services | Offices in Kitchener-Waterloo and Toronto | UI/UX for websites and mobile apps, with a described process of kick-off, sketches or wireframes and prototyping; also SEO, paid ads and Shopify | No | No: the Kitchener Housing study lists deliverables and a testimonial, not the process |
| UXPro (this studio) | Kitchener | Product UX and UI, mobile app design, UX audits; also websites, brand identity, pitch decks and SEO | No for UX work (quoted after a call); websites from $1,500, $3,500 or $7,500 CAD + HST | Yes: the [Stride](/work/stride) app study (client work, anonymised) shows the research framing and decisions |

Read the table as a starting point. A "No" in the last column means we could not find a case study explaining process on the day, not that the studio has no process.

## Where do we come out worse?

**Breadth of in-house production.** [Loft17 Creative](https://www.loft17creative.com/custom-app-design) says its designers and app developers share the same Kitchener-Waterloo loft, and it also does 3D printing, signage and video. [Token](https://tokencs.ca/solutions/ui-ux-design/) runs SEO and paid advertising alongside design. If you want one firm for an app and a trade-show booth, they cover more ground than we do.

**Named local product work.** Our product evidence is narrower than we would like. Stride is real client work, but it is anonymised, so you can't call the client. Our other product pages are studio concepts, and we label them that way.

**A published UX price.** We publish website prices and care-plan prices, but not a number for UX and product work, because scope varies too much. Like every other studio in this table, we quote it after a call.

**Testing named up front.** [Metatroncube's UI/UX page](https://metatroncubesolutions.com/service/ui-ux-designing/) names user testing as a stage. Our [UX and UI service page](/services/ux-ui-design) sizes research to the decision instead, which means some projects use your existing data rather than new sessions with users.

## How do you choose a UX or product design studio?

1. **Write down the decision you need to make.** "Should we build this feature?" needs research. "Make these screens consistent" needs a design system. A studio that asks which one it is before quoting is doing its job.
2. **Read two case studies end to end.** Look for the problem, what the team learned from users, what they changed because of it, and what they handed over. Finished screens alone tell you about taste, not process.
3. **Ask how they will learn from real users.** In [moderated usability testing](https://www.gov.uk/service-manual/user-research/using-moderated-usability-testing), as the GOV.UK Service Manual describes it, you watch participants try to complete specific tasks. Ask whether that, or something lighter, is in the scope, and who recruits the participants.
4. **Ask who does the work.** Ask who runs the research and who designs the screens, and whether the developer who builds it has seen the design before handoff.
5. **Get the scope and ownership in writing.** The quote should list deliverables, revision rounds and what you own at the end. With us, your code stays in your repository. You own it.

If you are deciding between a prototype and a first build, our guide to [what to build first](/blog/mvp-prototype-before-development) goes further, and [How to choose a UX design agency](/blog/how-to-choose-a-ux-design-agency) has a longer question list.

## Does the Waterloo tech ecosystem matter when you hire?

It is useful context, not a credential. Waterloo Region has well-known startup support: [Communitech](https://communitech.ca/), based on Charles Street West in Kitchener, says it helps tech companies start, grow and succeed. Waterloo EDC's [overview of local hubs](https://www.waterlooedc.ca/blog/tech-hubs-incubators-accelerators-waterloo) describes Velocity as an incubator created by the University of Waterloo, and the Accelerator Centre as offering incubation and acceleration programs. None of the studios in this table, ourselves included, claims a partnership with any of them, and proximity to them says nothing about design quality.

What being local does give you is easier in-person workshops and testing sessions, and a studio that knows the region's customers. If you are outside the region, the same checks apply; see [how to choose a UX design agency](/blog/how-to-choose-a-ux-design-agency).

## FAQ

### What are the best UX and product design agencies in Kitchener-Waterloo?
There is no neutral ranking. On 15 October 2026, the Waterloo Region studios whose own sites confirmed UX or product design work were Loft17 Creative, Token Creative Services, Metatroncube Software Solution and UXPro. Shortlist the ones whose case studies show work like yours, then compare written scopes.

### Why are so few studios on the list?
We only kept a firm when its own website confirmed both a Waterloo Region location and UX or product design services on the day we checked. Several firms that appear in directories failed one of those tests, so we left them out rather than repeat a directory's claim.

### Do any Waterloo Region UX studios publish prices?
None of the four in our table published a price for UX or product design work on 15 October 2026. UXPro publishes website project prices from $1,500 CAD plus HST, but quotes UX and product work after a call about scope.

### What is the difference between a UX studio and a web design agency?
A web design agency mainly builds marketing websites. A UX or product studio designs how people use a product: the flows, screens and decisions inside an app or a tool. Many local firms do both, so ask which one a case study actually shows.

### Should a startup use a local studio because of the Waterloo tech ecosystem?
Being local makes in-person workshops and testing sessions easier, and the region has well-known startup support such as Communitech, Velocity and the Accelerator Centre. None of that tells you whether a given studio is good. Judge each one on its case studies and its written scope.
