# Trades and home service websites

Reviewed 17 October 2026. Canonical page: https://uxpro.ca/industries/trades

What their customers come to the site to do:

1. Call from the first screen, on a phone
2. Check the business covers their street
3. Ask for a quote in five fields

**From $1,500 CAD per project, plus HST**

## What does a contractor website need to make the phone ring?

A phone number that is tappable in the first screen on a phone. A page for each service, and a page for each town you actually work in. Real photos of finished jobs with the town named. Licence, insurance and WSIB status stated. A quote form of five fields. Plus a Google Business Profile that matches, because most of these searches happen on a map.

| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| Typical timeline | Typically two to three weeks for one page; typically four to six weeks for five to ten |
| Typical size | One landing page, built around a single conversion, or a custom site of five to ten pages |
| First screen on mobile | Tap-to-call and the service |
| Quote form | 5 fields, photo upload included |
| Service-area pages | Only towns with real work |
| What you supply | Photos, licence numbers, towns |
| Price | From $1,500 CAD + HST |
| Plan fit | Essentials, $250 a month, plus profile upkeep |

## What this sector changes about the build.

The constraints on the right are the pages the site needs because of them.

Pages this site needs:

- One page per service: What it covers, roughly what it costs, and how quickly you can get there.
- A page per town you work in: A real job, a date, the travel arrangement, and the towns nearby.
- Recent work: Real photos, town named, dated. Before and after where you have both.
- Licensing, insurance and WSIB: Numbers stated, permits explained, warranty terms written down.
- A five-question quote form: What, where, when, photos, and how to reach you. Nothing else.
- Emergency and after-hours: What you cover, what it costs, and how fast you actually answer.

### The phone is the conversion, not the form

Most trade enquiries are a tap on a phone number from a driveway or a flooded basement. So the number sits in the first screen, tappable, with the hours beside it and an honest line about after-hours calls. The form exists for people who would rather type, and it never outranks the phone.

- Tap-to-call in the first screen on mobile
- Hours and after-hours expectations stated
- A sticky call button as you scroll
- The form as the second option, not the only one

### Service-area pages, only where you work

One page per town you genuinely serve, with a job you did there, the travel arrangement, and the neighbouring towns. Not thirty pages with the name swapped, which get filtered and make the site look thin. If you have no work and no proof in a town, it does not get a page yet.

- A named job and a date per town
- Travel, call-out and minimum-charge detail
- Neighbouring towns listed honestly
- LocalBusiness markup per page

### Photos of finished work beat stock every time

Ten real photos from your own phone are worth more than any stock library. Before and after, the town named in the caption, dated. We compress them properly so a gallery does not cost you four seconds of load time on a phone.

### Licence, insurance and WSIB, in writing

Homeowners have been burned. Stating your licence number, your insurance and your WSIB clearance, plus whether you pull permits, removes the doubt that otherwise gets resolved by calling somebody else.

## What we can show a buyer in this sector.

A trades study drawn around the quote a homeowner asks for from the driveway: five fields, a photo, and a range rather than a call-back.

- **[Grantham Electric](https://uxpro.ca/work/grantham-electric)** (Trades · concept site · Concept): A photo-quote intake from the driveway, and a van code that opens the street's job log, so a service area is a record rather than a list of towns. Grantham Electric — the van door that promises a range, and the yard sign after the job · studio concept

Grantham Electric is a concept: no contractor commissioned it and nothing was measured.

## The compliance work is a line item, not a paragraph.

Consumer protection rules in Ontario cover how you quote and what you promise. We keep the site on the right side of that.

Named deliverables:

- Claims and licensing review: Licence and WSIB numbers shown correctly, no guaranteed timelines you cannot hold, warranty terms written plainly, and estimate language that matches what you actually do on site.
- Quote-form review: Five fields, photo upload that works from a phone, and an automatic reply that states when you will get back to them.
- [AODA and WCAG 2.2 AA pass](https://uxpro.ca/services/compliance/aoda): Keyboard path, contrast, heading order, focus states and form labels checked before launch, and again on every care-plan review.

## What a build for this sector costs.

How we price it: **From $1,500 CAD per project, plus HST.** One landing page, built around a single conversion or a custom site of five to ten pages covers most trades. The Google Business Profile work usually matters more than the site's page count, so we quote them together and tell you which to do first.

Add-ons: extra article $220 · extra page $450 · hourly $120. All figures are CAD and exclude tax.

Month-to-month. Cancel any time. No annual pricing exists.

Changes the price:

- How many services and how many towns get their own page.
- Whether you have usable photos, or need a shoot arranged.
- Whether quotes are handled in the form or in software you already use.
- Emergency routing, if after-hours calls need to go somewhere specific.

Not included:

- Photography, if your own photos are not usable.
- Ad spend, including Google Local Services Ads.
- Field-service software licences and set-up.
- Van wrapping and signage production.

## Ontario, from Kitchener.

Waterloo Region gets in-person meetings. Everywhere else runs on a call, a written copy brief and a staging link, which is the same work.

- Kitchener: Home base. We meet in person.
- Waterloo: In person.
- Cambridge: In person.
- Guelph: In person, by arrangement.
- Toronto and the GTA: On a call, or in person on request.
- The rest of Ontario: On a call. Distance changes nothing.

Location pages:

- [Kitchener-Waterloo](https://uxpro.ca/locations/kitchener-waterloo): Home base. Websites, product, brand and decks, with in-person meetings across the region.
- [Waterloo](https://uxpro.ca/locations/waterloo): Product and app UX, prototypes and decks for founders and product teams. In person.
- [Cambridge](https://uxpro.ca/locations/cambridge): Trades, clinics and local services. Map-pack work and in-person meetings.
- [Guelph](https://uxpro.ca/locations/guelph): Practices, family services and research founders. In person by arrangement.
- [Toronto and the GTA](https://uxpro.ca/locations/toronto-gta): Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Markham and beyond. Mostly remote, in person when it matters.
- [Across Ontario](https://uxpro.ca/locations/ontario): Province-wide, with Hamilton and London sections. Multi-location firms and Ontario rules.
- [Across Canada, remotely](https://uxpro.ca/locations/canada): Remote work across Canada, and for US companies. Time zones, sales tax and provincial rules.

## What this sector asks before booking a call.

### What does a contractor website cost?

From $1,500 CAD plus HST for one landing page, from $3,500 for five to ten pages with service-area pages. We quote one number before we start. If your Google Business Profile is the bigger problem, we will tell you to spend the money there first.

### Do I need a page for every town I serve?

Only the ones where you genuinely work and can show a job. A page per town with a real project, a date and the travel arrangement earns its place. Thirty city-swapped pages get filtered, and they drag the rest of the site down.

### How many fields should a quote form have?

Five: what you need, where it is, when you need it, a photo, and how to reach you. Every extra field costs you enquiries. The detail you need for a real quote comes from the photo and the call, not the form.

### Is a website worth it if most of my work comes from referrals?

Referrals still check you. They search your name, look at your photos, confirm your licence and insurance, then call. A site that loads fast and answers those three things converts the referral you already earned, which is the cheapest work on it.
