# Product design, prototypes and pitch decks in Waterloo

Reviewed 17 October 2026. Canonical page: https://uxpro.ca/locations/waterloo

Most Waterloo companies we hear from need the same three things, roughly in this order: a product people can follow, a prototype to test it, and a deck that explains it to someone with money.

Where we work here, and how:

- Uptown Waterloo: In person for kick-offs and reviews.
- Northfield and the research park: In person, at your office.
- [Downtown Kitchener](https://uxpro.ca/locations/kitchener-waterloo): Home base, down King Street.
- Remote teams with a Waterloo office: A shared prototype, calls, and in person when you are in town.

How we meet:

- **In person:** The kick-off and the main reviews, at your office, co-working space or nearby.
- **Remote:** A shared prototype with written comments between meetings.
- **Built here:** [Tokas Lex Law Office](https://uxpro.ca/work/tokas-lex-law-office), Waterloo office, website

## Who designs products, prototypes and pitch decks for Waterloo startups?

UXPro is a design studio next door in Kitchener. For Waterloo founders and product teams we design apps and software (flows, screens, a clickable prototype and a component set your developers can build from), pitch decks for a raise, and the brand and website that usually follow. We meet in person in Waterloo for the kick-off and reviews, and work in a shared prototype between them. Each engagement is one fixed quote.

| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| Studio | Kitchener, next door to Waterloo |
| In person | Kick-off and main reviews, at your office |
| Leads with | Product and app UX, prototypes, pitch decks |
| Also | Brand identity, website, search and AI visibility |
| Product work | Scoped and quoted before we start |
| Deck timing | Quoted against your meeting date |
| Local client work | Tokas Lex Law Office, Waterloo office |
| Under NDA | Product, brand and deck work for EdTech, FinTech and mental-health startups |

## Product first, then the deck, then the site.

The order Waterloo teams usually need things in, and what each service covers.

- [UX and UI product design](https://uxpro.ca/services/ux-ui-design): The flows and screens of a web product, tested as a clickable prototype before anyone writes production code.
- [Mobile app design](https://uxpro.ca/services/mobile-app-design): iOS and Android app design drawn phone-first, with the empty, loading and error states your developers will ask about.
- [Pitch deck design](https://uxpro.ca/services/pitch-deck-design): A deck for a pre-seed or seed raise, a grant application or a demo day, written so it reads without you presenting.
- [Branding and identity](https://uxpro.ca/services/branding): An identity for a company that is about to be seen by investors, hires and its first customers.
- [Website design and build](https://uxpro.ca/services/website-design-build): The marketing site that has to explain the product in one screen, and grow a page at a time after launch.
- [AI search visibility](https://uxpro.ca/services/ai-search-geo): Making sure assistants and search engines describe the product the way its own pages do.

## How a product engagement runs in Waterloo.

For founders and product teams

Name, place and number:

- **Studio:** UXPro Design Studio
- **Based in:** Kitchener, Ontario, Canada
- **Email:** hello@uxpro.ca
- **Hours:** Monday to Friday, 9 to 5 Eastern
- **Area served:** Waterloo, Kitchener

No street address is published: the studio has none that matches a verified listing, and a local page should not invent one.

### Prototype before you commit a sprint to it

A clickable prototype costs days; a built feature nobody understands costs months. We draw the core flow, put it in front of five people who match your user, and change it before your developers start. That is usually the cheapest product decision a small team will make.

- One core flow, end to end, before the edges
- A prototype you can put in front of a user this week
- States drawn: empty, loading, error and success
- A component set your developers can build from

### A deck that reads without you in the room

Most decks get read on a phone between meetings, forwarded by someone who liked your call. So each slide makes one claim, the numbers are yours and dated, and the story holds together with nobody narrating it. We publish no client decks, which is why the work shown here is our own practice.

### Context, not affiliation

Waterloo has an unusual density of early-stage software companies around the University of Waterloo, its Velocity incubator, the Accelerator Centre and Communitech in downtown Kitchener. We have no affiliation with any of them. It simply means the founders here tend to need product, deck and brand work close together, and it helps to have one studio that does all three.

### Meeting in Waterloo

We come to your office, co-working desk or a café in Uptown Waterloo for the kick-off and the main reviews. Between them we work in a shared prototype and leave written comments, so the team can review on its own time rather than block an afternoon.

## What we measured in Waterloo

The index has no Waterloo rows (the region's chamber directory is off-limits to crawlers under its own robots.txt), and it measured professional practices rather than software companies. What does carry over to a product team is how readable those 187 Ontario sites were to machines, because structured data and llms.txt are what search engines and assistants read before they describe a company.

- Waterloo sites in the index: None. No Waterloo site is in the 2026-10b edition.
- Any schema.org structured data, Ontario-wide: 80% of 187 homepages.
- A LocalBusiness-type description: 35% of 187.
- An llms.txt file published: 28% of 187.

*Practices, not startups: read these as the state of the web around a Waterloo product, not as a measure of product sites. Nothing here is a claim about a client of ours.*

## Work that fits this page, each piece labelled.

A real product engagement, shown anonymised at the client's request, a consumer app drawn end to end, and the deck practice that usually runs alongside them. The law firm with a Waterloo office is a text line, because it is a website, not product work.

- **[Stride](https://uxpro.ca/work/stride)** (Study-habit app · product UX · Client work, anonymised): A study app built around one obvious next session: three onboarding screens, a four-question intake that ends in a plan, study areas that hold a goal as easily as a course, and a component set on an eight-point grid. Client work, anonymised at the client's request. No install or retention figures claimed.
- **[Tandem](https://uxpro.ca/work/tandem)** (Consumer app · product UX · Concept): A group-trip app drawn around agreeing, not searching: each friend's dates and a private budget, a few options compared on the same facts, and a plan that counts as agreed only when everyone says yes. Tandem — the group decision: a plan counts only when everyone says yes · studio concept
- **[Funded — pitch deck practice](https://uxpro.ca/work/funded)** (Pitch decks · studio practice · Our own practice): Four startup concepts, each with its own audience, message and visual identity. Original studio studies for Zonely, Embergrid, Serein and Tandem. No real fundraising process or business outcome is represented.

Stride is client work, anonymised at the client's request: no install or retention figure is claimed. Tandem is a studio concept: no client, nothing shipped, no results. Funded is our own deck practice; no founder's deck is shown.

## What product, deck and brand work costs.

Product work is sprint-priced, decks and identities have fixed published prices, and the marketing site that follows uses the Growth tier. All figures are Canadian dollars before HST.

Prices:

- Pitch decks: Standard $1,800 CAD per deck, plus HST; investor deck $3,500 CAD per deck, plus HST.
- Brand identity: $3,500 CAD per project, plus HST, or $6,500 CAD per project, plus HST with applications. Agreed in the written quote.
- Growth website: From $3,500 CAD + HST. A custom site of five to ten pages. Typically four to six weeks.

## Founder questions: prototypes, decks, NDAs and hand-off.

### Is there data on how Waterloo startup websites perform?

Not from us. Our index measured Ontario law, clinic and accounting practices, not software companies, and none of them in Waterloo. For a product site the useful takeaway is the machine-readable layer: 80% of the 187 practice homepages carried structured data, and 28% published an llms.txt file.

### Should we build a prototype before we build the product?

Usually, yes. A clickable prototype of the core flow can be tested with real users in days, and it turns arguments about the design into observations. Build the production version once the prototype stops surprising people.

### What does product or app design cost for a startup?

Scoped and quoted before we start. Scope moves the price more than anything else: one core flow for a prototype is a different job from a full app with onboarding, settings and payments. The quote states the scope, the price and the date before anything starts.

### How quickly can you turn around a pitch deck?

Quoted against your meeting date. Tell us when you are presenting or sending it, and we plan backwards from that date. The slowest part is almost always gathering your numbers, so have those ready.

### Can you meet us at our office in Waterloo?

Yes. We come to your office, co-working space or a café nearby for the kick-off and the main reviews. Between those we work in a shared prototype with written comments, so your team can review without blocking an afternoon.

### Will you sign an NDA?

Yes. A lot of our startup work is under NDA, which is why the product and deck work on this site is either anonymised at the client's request or our own practice. We publish sector, deliverable and stage only, never a founder's numbers.

### What do our developers get at the end?

Screens for every state the flow can be in, a component set with its spacing and type rules, and notes on behaviour that a static screen cannot show. The aim is that a developer can build it without booking a call to ask what happens next.

### Does a software product need to meet AODA?

If your company has 50 or more employees in Ontario, your public website falls under the Integrated Accessibility Standards and must meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA. Small startups are not bound by that section yet, but designing for keyboard, screen-reader and contrast from the first prototype costs far less than retrofitting it later.
