# Wonderhill daycare (Concept) — What must a parent know before signing up?

**Concept.** Concept — no client, nothing shipped, no metrics.

> No client commissioned it and no business has been measured against it. Any figure on this page is a projection, and its assumptions are printed with it.

A studio concept, never built for a client. The structure is the useful part. Its enrolment figure is an illustrative projection, not a result, and its assumptions are stated beside it on this page.

## Facts

| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| Our role | Self-initiated brand and website concept |
| Scope | A landing-page concept, an identity and its applications |
| Constraints | The fixed list of facts a parent must find before they will join a waitlist, licensing first |
| Status | Self-initiated · nothing shipped |

## The problem

*What does a parent need to know before they will put a child's name on your list?*

Parents compare three centres in an evening. They want licensing, hours, ratios and fees, and above all one answer: is there a spot? A centre that makes them phone to find out has already lost two of the three.

Most childcare sites answer none of that on the first screen. They open with a photo carousel, and the waitlist form asks for a message instead of the child's age and start month. The centre then cannot sort the list it just collected.

## What the breakdown recommends

This is our recommendation for the sector, worked through as a concept. Nothing here was built for a client.

- Licensing, hours, ratios and a fee range on the first screen, in plain language.
- A waitlist form that asks for the child's age and a start month, so the list can be sorted and answered.
- Real dated photographs of the rooms and the yard, instead of stock imagery of other people's children.
- A page per programme — infant, toddler, preschool — each with its own spaces and its own fee line.
- The parent handbook and the menu published as pages, so a parent can read them without a download.
- One number and one email per location, and a stated reply window for waitlist enquiries.

## What we did not do

- We did not build it. No centre commissioned the concept and no site was shipped from it.
- We did not talk to parents or to a licensed operator. The list of facts comes from published Ontario childcare licensing requirements and from reading the sector's sites, not from research we ran.
- We did not use photographs of children. Real dated photographs of the rooms and the yard are the recommendation; a concept has none to show.
- We did not present the projected enrolment figure as a result, here or on the card that links to this page.

## The number, and what it assumes

The original concept carried an enrolment figure. It is an illustrative projection from the concept. It is not a measured client result, and no centre has been measured against it.

**Projection, not a result.** The illustrated page shows an illustrative projected figure beside its assumptions. It is not a measured result, so this text version does not repeat the number.

Assumptions:

- The starting point is a centre taking enquiries by phone only, with no waitlist form on its website.
- Every enquiry reaching the form is counted, including the ones a phone-only centre would never have heard about.
- Local search is already working, so the centre appears in the map pack for its own neighbourhood.
- Spaces are available to fill. A centre at licensed capacity cannot triple anything.

Caveat: Read the figure as the concept's goal, not as a result. Where we have real client numbers they carry a client name, a window and a date — see the Orient Barber Shop case study.

## Validation

Nothing here has been validated against a centre. What can be checked is that the concept answers, on the first screen, every question the sector's own licensing and fee disclosure requires a parent to be able to answer — licensing, hours, ratios and a fee range — and that the waitlist form collects the two fields that let a centre sort and answer a list.

### The limits of that

- Nobody has used this. There was no usability testing, because there is no product and no centre.
- The enrolment figure is an illustrative projection from the concept with the four assumptions printed on this page. It is not a measured result.
- The comparison baseline is an invented one: a phone-only centre with no waitlist form. No real centre was audited to produce it.
- Fees, ratios and programme names in the plates are illustrative, not any centre's published terms.

## The method

**Sector rules first, layout second.**

A childcare site has a fixed list of facts a parent must find, and licensing sits at the top of it. Once that list is on the page, the design is about order and emphasis rather than decoration.

The waitlist form is the whole product. It should ask the two questions that let a centre answer honestly — how old is the child, and when do you need the space — and nothing that slows a parent down at nine in the evening.
