What will my panel upgrade cost?

Grantham Electric is a Kitchener electrician we invented to answer that question from one photo, within a day, before anyone books a visit.

Try the working prototype

Recorded from the working prototype on this page: scripted taps at phone size, 60 fps. Studio concept.

Panel upgrade, 100 A to 200 A

Before HST. ESA permit and inspection included. Activa Avenue, Kitchener.

Photograph the panel, check what we read, choose the job, give the street: a range, not a call-back. Left, the journey; right, the range card it ends on, the live component at sign scale. Recorded from the working prototype on this page: scripted taps at phone size, 60 fps. Studio concept.

Try it: get a quote range from a photo of my panel

The working prototype, native on this page: keyboard and touch, no iframe. Nothing is sent.

It never asks for

  • A house number or full address
  • Your name, phone or email before you have seen a price
  • Anything in the photo beyond the panel; in this prototype the photo never leaves the browser
  • Payment details

Site signage, not a brochure

The system was drawn for a van door and a lawn sign, so that is where it is shown: the same volt field, bolt mark and plain instruction as the site, and the yard sign that becomes a line in the street’s job log. The business, its number and its jobs are invented.

A volt-yellow van door panel with the bolt mark on an ink tile, Grantham Electric in heavy type, the line Photograph your panel. Get a price range, not a call-back, and an ink band with 519-555-0173 and Kitchener, licensed electrical contractor. Beside it, an ink yard sign on a stake: Grantham Electric was here, panel upgrade 100 A to 200 A, Activa Avenue, Sept 2026, with a green ESA inspection passed tag.

Three decisions, as redlines

What we would strike from the usual trades site, what we put in its place, and why. The business, its prices and its street records are invented.

  1. Decision 1: The photo comes before the form.

The first thing the site asks for is a photo of the open panel, not a name and a phone number. The photo carries the service size, fuses or breakers and the free spaces; the customer confirms what we read and sees a range on the same screen. Contact details come later, once there is a price worth replying to.

Send a photo of your panel. See a price range now, confirmed by tomorrow.

The photo-quote viewfinder: a breaker panel in a dark camera view, volt corner guides, checks reading Door open and Main breaker in frame, and the instruction Fit the whole panel in the frame.
The viewfinder: what a usable photo needs, checked as you frame it. Rendered screen, concept.
  2. Decision 2: Service-area pages are job logs.

Each street Grantham has worked on gets a page: the month, the job, what the panel was and what it became, and whether the ESA inspection passed. Never a house number. The van's code opens the log for the street it is parked on, so a neighbour reading it is looking at work done fifty metres away.

Activa Avenue: three jobs since April. A panel upgrade, an EV charger, a subpanel.

Check what we read: the panel thumbnail, service size 100 A, breakers, no free spaces, with controls to correct each one.
Check what we read, and correct it. Rendered screen, concept.
  3. Decision 3: A published range, not “call for pricing”.

Each common job has a range on the site, and the photo narrows it: a full 100 A panel moves an EV charger into the load-manager band; a 60 A fuse box puts a panel upgrade in front of anything else. The carbon-copy quote on site carries the same numbers the website showed.

    Panel upgrade, 100 A to 200 A: $2,800 to $3,600. ESA permit included.

The range, live from the kit: low to high on one fixed scale, so two quotes can be compared.

The progress is a wire, and each step is a node on it.

Five nodes on an ink wire; the one you are on is volt. It reads like the job it sells. The live component at three times its size.

The system: site signage, not a brochure

A sturdy display face for figures, its text twin for everything else, and volt used as a field with ink always on top. Studio concept.

Limits
  • An invented business; no client commissioned it.
  • The prototype has not been tested with users.
  • Speed and accessibility figures are targets, not measurements.

The limits

  • Grantham is invented. Nobody has used this site, and nothing on this page was measured.
  • The photo reading and the price range are simulated in the prototype; nothing is uploaded or sent.
  • Prices are illustrative bands. A real electrician would publish their own, reviewed against ESA permit fees.
  • The screens are our renders of the prototype; the panel in the viewfinder is a drawing, not a photograph.

What we did not do

  • A chat window that asks for your name before it answers anything.
  • Twelve service-area pages with the city name swapped.
  • Stock photos of an electrician smiling at a panel.
  • A free-estimate form with eleven fields and no price at the end.
